SOLVE organizes AF4 symposiums/workshops where AF4 users, customers and people interested in the techniques are welcome.

Next Generation Strategies and
Insights on Large Molecule Characterization

 Who should attend?

• First day: Scientists from industry or academia that are looking for new strategies on characterization of macromolecules and nanoparticles. 
• Second day: Scientists looking for training on Wyatt MALS, DLS, or FFF instrumentation

(Feel free to attend either both days or just one of them, according to your demand.)

• Characterization of polymers, molar mass, conformation, branching;
• Characterization of proteins oligomeric state;
• Detection and quantification of aggregates;
• Formulation and stability of biotherapeutics;
• Determination of size, size distributions of nanoparticles;
• Theoretical concepts underpinning the light scattering toolkit, including: SEC-MALS, FFF-MALS, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS)

Previous events

In August 2018 we took the minisymposium on Protein Formulation and Characterization together with Wyatt Technology Europe to KI Science Park in Stockholm. We had new speakers and this day combined knowledgeable presentations with vivid and fruitful discussions.

Speakers at the event included Sergei Kuprin from Swedish Orphan Biovitrum, Marie Wahlgren from Lund University, Roger Scherrers from Wyatt Technology Europe as well as Sebastian Hansson from SOLVE.

The symposium was very informative with seminars and discussions well-suited for both beginners and experienced people in the field of protein formulation and characterization.


In March 2018 we organized a minisymposium on Protein Formulation and Characterization at DTU, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark together with Wyatt Technology Europe. This fully-booked event became a succesful forum for ideas, experiences and solutions to support the development and comprehension of new protein therapeutics.

Speakers at the event included Per-Olof Wahlund from Novo Nordisk, Jens Kvist Madsen from Zealand Pharma, Stefan Ulvenlund from Enza Biotech/Croda, Johan Qvist from Novozymes, Pernille Harris from DTU, Dierk Roessner from Wyatt Technology Europe as well as Sebastian Hansson from SOLVE.

The symposium gave a good overview of present protein characterization methods and which formulation issues are currently being battled. Especially exciting were presentations on the many possible applications of AF4 and light scattering. Furthermore, both presenters and participants were keen on discussing results, problems and possible solutions.


In 2016 we held a workshop with the objective to introduce AF4 as a technique for the analysis of materials such as polymers, biopolymers and nanoparticles. We discussed AF4’s capabilities to separate, detect and characterize materials when coupled to detectors such as MALS, RI, UV, etc. and how the data can explain the behavior of the material. At this workshop we also discussed how the information can be complemented with other characterization techniques such as SEC, DLS, TEM, SAXS, among others.

A great workshop – anyone who is interested in learning about AF4 should attend.

The workshop had a good balance between lectures, discussions and practical presentations.
